More Details About 1/2″ AR500 Steel Plate

TongHui’s 1/2-inch thick AR500 wear-resistant steel plate is priced per metric ton. Based on the current market conditions, the spot price for the standard 4×8 ft size is $689 per metric ton. A preferential price of $679 per metric ton is available for bulk purchases of 10–19 metric tons, and a bottom price of $649 per metric ton applies to bulk orders of 20 metric tons and above. This is the FOB factory price, excluding international freight, tariffs and customs clearance fees.
There is no extra charge for non-standard sizes such as 48×120 inches. For custom processed parts requiring cutting or bending, a 5%–10% surcharge will be added to the base price. Steel plate prices are subject to fluctuations in raw steel material prices, and this quotation is valid for 7 days. Long-term cooperative customers can negotiate better prices based on their annual procurement volume.

    • Standard width: 48 inches, 60 inches (tolerance ±0.02 inch)
    • Standard length: 96 inches, 120 inches (tolerance ±0.03 inch)
    • Custom non-standard dimensions are available upon request
  • Mechanical Properties
    • Brinell hardness: 470–550 HB
    • Yield strength: ≥100 ksi
    • Tensile strength: 110–130 ksi
    • Low-temperature impact toughness: Impact energy ≥20 J at -40℃
  • Material Standards
    • Compliance: Complies with general technical specifications for the wear-resistant steel industry
    • Heat treatment process: Quenched and tempered heat treatment (quenching + tempering)
  • Processing Parameters
    • Cutting tolerance: ±0.02 inch for plasma/laser cutting
    • Weldability: Suitable for shielded metal arc welding and gas metal arc welding, no preheating required before welding
  • High Hardness & Wear Resistance

With a stable Brinell hardness of 470–550 HB and strengthened by quenched and tempered heat treatment, its wear resistance is 3–5 times that of ordinary carbon steel. It can resist continuous abrasion from gravel and metal debris, effectively extending the service life of equipment.

  • Excellent Impact Resistance & Toughness

It combines superior impact resistance and low-temperature toughness, with no risk of brittle fracture even under the low-temperature working condition of -40℃. It is capable of withstanding severe stress scenarios such as heavy object collision and material impact.

  • Strong Processability & Adaptability

It supports conventional processing techniques including plasma cutting, laser cutting, bending and welding. Its mechanical properties do not show obvious attenuation after processing, making it suitable for the production of various customized parts.

  • Engineering Machinery Sector

It can be fabricated into wear-prone components such as loader bucket liners, excavator bucket teeth and bulldozer track shoes. It withstands high-frequency friction and impact from gravel and dregs, greatly reducing equipment maintenance frequency and costs.

  • Mining Equipment Sector

It is suitable for parts like crusher liners, conveyor scraper blades and mining truck bed plates. Under the harsh working conditions of ore mining and transportation, it demonstrates a wear life far superior to that of ordinary steel plates.

  • Protection & Target Plate Sector

It serves as shooting training target plates and equipment protective armor. With its high hardness, it resists projectile impact, while its good toughness prevents brittle fracture and deformation after being impacted.

Q:What is 1/2 inch AR500 steel rated for?
A:1/2-inch AR500 steel is rated for exceptional wear resistance and impact toughness, with a Brinell hardness range of 470–550 HB, achieved through quenched and tempered heat treatment. Its wear resistance is 3–5 times that of regular carbon steel, making it ideal for withstanding high-frequency abrasion from gravel, ore, and metal debris. It is also rated to resist brittle fracture at temperatures as low as -40℃, suitable for harsh outdoor and industrial environments.

Rated for compatibility with standard fabrication processes like plasma cutting, laser cutting, welding, and bending, it maintains structural integrity post-processing. This steel is widely rated for heavy-duty applications such as engineering machinery liners, mining equipment parts, and ballistic target plates, delivering stable performance under extreme loading conditions.

Q:What will 1/2 AR500 stop?
A:1/2-inch AR500 steel is highly effective at stopping a range of projectiles and abrasive materials in both industrial and ballistic applications. Ballistically, it can reliably stop common handgun rounds like 9mm, .45 ACP, and .38 Special at typical engagement distances, as well as rifle rounds such as .223 Remington with minimal deformation. It also withstands shotgun slugs and birdshot without penetration.

In industrial settings, this steel stops high-velocity impacts from gravel, ore fragments, and metal debris that wear down ordinary steel. Its 470–550 HB hardness prevents punctures and deformation under repeated impacts, making it a top choice for protective target plates, mining equipment liners, and machinery guards.
